Domain Format (with or without hyphen '-' )

Usually it more common to use domain names without hyphens. Include your primary keyword within the Domain name. Old domain names carry more weight than new ones. Separate the keyword and other words within your domain name using a hyphen (-), for example: beginner-java-tutorial.com . Keep your domain address to a minimum as Long names can be considered as spam.

How important is the domain?

Its not crucial part with respect to SEO anymore, but having a related domain name is just an extra leg up you would have in getting your site ranked for what you want. A domain name should basically give an end visitor a clear picture of what the site would consist before visiting it. The more general a domain name it is the better it is. As in, a general domain name would very well accommodate several relevant categories. A more familiar domain name is easy to search and remember. For some not so regular search engines, it is an advantage if your domain name is associated with your keyword. Using your keyword as your sub domains is also beneficial.

Domain Age

The older the domain the higher probability of its better ranking compared to the totally new domains. Registering your domain for a long duration (more then 2 years) will tell search engines that you are serious about your website and not some quick turnkey website for money.
